Bharatiya Janata Party has made Pramod Sawant the new Chief Minister of Goa. In October 2018, when Manohar Parrikar was declared ill, he became active in Goa's politics. Sawant is a resident of Kotombe, a village in Bicholim taluka of Goa. Sawant has a relationship with the RSS since childhood. Due to RSS tilt, it was devoted to Hinduism's ideology. His father Pandurang Sawant has been a member of East District Panchayat. He was an active member of the Indian Janasangh, the Indian Labor Party. He was known as BJP's loyalist.Sawant has been in the RSS for some time. His politics were more sympathetic. So he was inducted into the BJP. He also served as the intellectual president of the Bicholim taluka RSS branch. But he did not spend much time in RSS activities.
Sawant did post graduation in social work after graduation in Ayurveda medicine. He also studied the Medico-legal system. His entry into politics came after the BJP's leadership inspection in 2008. Sankelim (ABSkhali) seat was vacant from where he asked to contest the elections. At that time he served as Ayurveda physician in the Northern District Hospital of Mechasura.After the BJP's leadership insinuation, he quit his government job and contested the by-election as a BJP candidate. However, they were defeated byelection. But in 2012 he emerged as a winner. Once again in the 2017 elections, he came to the Legislative Assembly to win the election candidly. In 2017, he was made the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in Manohar Parrikar's government.
